Wedding confetti toss – get the perfect shot on a budget!
May is the month that wedding season kicks off for the summer in the UK. One special moment to consider is the “confetti toss”. I think the trick to getting great pics when the confetti is thrown is to choose confetti that co-operates!
Choosing venue friendly confetti
For the best photo of your guests throwing their confetti, choose petals that are really lightweight so they float down slowly. This gives the photographer more time to click that button! Choose white, ivory or pale petals because these will reflect the light and show up best.
So you need pale colour, lightweight petals. Traditionally, people have used tissue paper which is now a no-no for most venues, or dried Delphinium petals, also known as Larkspur. You can buy Delphinium petals in ivory and a range of other colours from UK growers. I think these are a great premium choice, but if you would like a more budget-friendly option, try Sweety petals.
Choose ivory dried flower petals that are affordable too
We haven’t all got hundreds of pounds to spend on frivolities like confetti these days!
For comparison using prices for 1 litre which is about 10 to 12 handfuls from daisyshop.co.uk:
- One litre of ivory delphinium petals is £12.99 (correct at time of writing in May 2024).
- Or an affordable alternative might be Sweety petals at £2.79 a litre – better than a quarter the price!
These savings really start to add up when you realise a typical wedding might host 100 people, so you would need ten litres!
Biodegradable Sweety petal confetti
Most wedding venues require biodegradable confetti these days. Sweety petals are real natural dried flowers so are 100% biodegradable, just like Delphiniums.
Sweety petals are cheaper because they are grown and imported in bulk. They are small delicate leaves (up to about a couple of centimetres across) which have a pretty skeleton structure visible. They have been bleached to shades of white, ivory and cream.
This confetti often contain a few seeds and sticks which need picking out before use but it’s well worth the effort considering the saving!
Read more about dried flower confetti – you may prefer to dry your own flower petals from the garden (but beware: white and pale shades can dry to brown, so do a test run first!), or choose other colours to fit in with a colour scheme.
