DIY flower crowns as a hen party activity
When Katie got in touch via daisyshop.co.uk for some dried flower bunches for her friend’s hen do, she explained they were going to make flower crowns and I thought “what a great idea”!
I think the best hen party activities involve being able to plan and source everything well in advance, and then resulting in some sort of keepsake. So using dried flowers for the flower crowns was a brilliant idea, ticking both these boxes!
Choosing dried flowers for the crowns
She told us her budget per head and said there would be fourteen people making the DIY headdresses. She had already sourced the wire and ribbon and just needed some flower stems.
In the pic below you can see some of the flowers we went with, on a broadly pink and yellow theme. We opted for a wide range of bunches rather than multiple the same, to offer the most choice.
Top row L-R
- Dark pink / purple clover – great for a wildflower effect
- Pale pink lagurus – add a modern twist
- Natural brown lagurus – natural grasses are perfect for an informal feel and tone down the bright colours
- UK grown natural green oats
- UK grown natural gypsophila – traditional baby’s breath often used at weddings
- Pink acroclinium flowers – the large daisy flowers with a yellow middle can add a fun hippy feel
Bottom row L-R
- Yellow lonas flowers – tone well with the acroclinium flower centres
- UK grown natural nigella seed pods – the pod shapes add interest and the purple tones co-ordinate with the clover
- Ivory broom bloom – tiny bleached flowers are often used for flower crowns
- Blue lavender – add contrasting colour and shape
- Peach statice – statice and limonium are commonly used fillers in floristry
- Pale pink limonium
Great results and a happy hen do!
We don’t always hear how these events go, so we were really happy when Katie got in touch afterwards to say how pleased she was!
I just wanted to send you a quick email to thank you for your help and service providing the dried flowers for my friend’s hen do. The flower crown making went down really well and everyone commented on how pleased they were with the results.
It was so kind of her to share her photos with us, and she also went on to leave a 5* Google review!
A big thank you for the Daisy Shop’s help and service providing the dried flowers for flower crown making at my friend’s hen do!
Mike and Ruth were both incredibly helpful with their advice on what and how much we would need to fit our requirements and colour scheme. Communication and delivery were both excellent, as was the quality of the produce.

DIY flower crown tips
It’s easy to make your own flower crown! You’ll need:
- Stiff florist wire
- Scissors
- Pliers
- Ribbon
- Florist tape or strong thread, twine, narrow ribbon or fishing wire
- Dried flower stems of course!
Here’s how:
- Take a piece of florist wire and cut to size by measuring around your head allowing an extra 6cm.
- Bend a small loop in each end of the wire using the pliers.
- Cut small sprigs of flowers into pieces only a few cm long – 5cm is a good starting point but don’t go too small as the smaller the pieces, the narrower the crown will be and the harder it will be to cover any untidy ends.
- Start at one loop and use the tape wrap the flowers firmly onto the wire one piece at a time, varying types and trying to cover the tape with each new flower so it’s hard to see where you’ve been.
- Keep going until you get to the loop at the other end and bind tightly to finish.
- Use a piece of ribbon to tie the two loops together at the back.
