Dried flowers are set to take centre stage in 2013

Last year was a good year for dried flowers – not only are dried flower petals increasingly important as wedding confetti, but dried flower crafts are once more gaining momentum. For example our shop started selling dried pressed flowers for the first time this year, which have received a lot of interest, and are provided from the garden of a lady in Surrey. Various UK growers are realising that there is a local market for dried lavender and decorative bunches again. Brides and interior designers are turning to dried flowers as a contemporary and unusual aspect to floral design, and the current trend for handicrafts continues.

I was pleased to be interviewed by Make and Craft magazine recently, and look forward to future articles with them on potpourri making and the rising popularity of dried flowers.

January is always a mixed month

In January, we have less orders in the shop as everyone recovers from Christmas, but it starts to take off again in time for Valentine’s Day in February and Mother’s Day in March. The time always seems to be filled with housekeeping tasks such as tidying the workshop and updating the website.

So there hasn’t been much time for dried flower crafts this year yet, although I have spent an afternoon with Fair Rosamund, who now sports a vibrant new hairdo and has been adorned with even more dried flower petals.
