Pressed flower project – heart box

Posted on by Ruth

A pressed flower project

I thought it was about time I made something with pressed flowers again! And being so close to Valentines Day, how about a heart shaped box for all your treasures?

Make a pressed flower box

I bought the plain kraft box in the Hobbycraft sale for about £1.
For this pressed flower project you will also need:
acrylic paint
pressed flowers
school glue (pva)
paintbrushes

I painted the box inside and out with two coats of white paint, then laid out my pressed flowers on the lid to see how the design would work.

These pressed flowers all came from my garden, and include pressed violas, aquilegias, pressed forget-me-nots, and a nodding clematis in the middle. I chose co-ordinating vintage shades.

Paint the dry box lid with a coat of glue, then place the pressed flowers. You may need to add extra pva carefully with a paintbrush if flower petals overlap. Push petals down onto the sides of the lid if they are too big for the top.

Any odd sticking up flower pieces will be sorted out by the final sealing coat of glue.pressed flower project box lid

The pva will turn transparent when it dries.

More about pressed dried flowers

Buy pressed flowers – the pressed flowers in the shop are not from my garden because I can’t produce them in big enough numbers to keep everyone happy – but they are from another English country garden! I have a friendly supplier that makes them for me.

Bloggers disclosure | Custom bouquets

Hi I’m Ruth – I love writing about plants, nature, dried flowers, wildflowers and crafts. You can find out more about me here.

I have run a dried flower and lavender business in the UK since 2002. This means I am experienced in dried flower craft, but also am biased towards my own products – I can’t help but be proud of what I do! Find out more about Daisy Gifts Ltd® at our sister site daisyshop.co.uk

Thanks very much to all the lovely people who ask about buying custom handmade arrangements and bouquets – I’m afraid I don’t offer this service anymore, but we do sell the flowers you need to make your own.
